Is your child 4-6 years old?
In Amstelveen, the policy is that all children from 4 to (almost) 6 years old enter a kindergarten class at a regular, Dutch-speaking elementary school. The CIL can inform you which schools are close to your home address and which schools have availability. You can then contact the school yourself for a tour, introduction meeting, and registration.
For children of (almost) 6 years old, in consultation with parents, we look closely at what your child needs. Depending on the educational background and the social-emotional development of your child, we will discuss if a place in a kindergarten group (group 2) or at the language school in group 3 is most appropriate.
Is your child 6-12 years old?
In Amstelveen, there are two language schools (Amsteltaal in Amstelveen-Zuid and Wereldschool Amstelveen in Amstelveen-Noord) for children aged 6-12 who do not speak Dutch well enough to enter a regular primary school.
After the average period of one year, the child will be ready to go to one of the 25 primary schools in Amstelveen/ Ouderkerk. The CIL will first help you find a spot at one of the language schools, and secondly, assist you in finding a regular primary school.
For children of (almost) 12 years old, in consultation with parents, we look closely at what your child needs. Depending on the educational background and the social-emotional development of your child, we will discuss if a place at the
language school (group 7 or 8) or a spot at the ISK (see menu bar 12-18 years) is most appropriate.
