About the CIL

The Central Information Desk (CIL) helps newly arrived families in the municipality of Amstelveen find a suitable primary school for their child.

Who can we help?

We can assist you if you:

  • are new to the Netherlands (for example as an expat, knowledge migrant, labour migrant or status holder);
  • have recently moved to the municipality of Amstelveen;
  • are looking for a preschool, primary school or language school for your child.

What do we do?

We provide information about the Dutch education system, local schools and enrolment procedures. We advise families on suitable school options, keep track of available places, prevent duplicate registrations and manage waiting lists for the Language Schools.

Finding the right school

Every child and family is different. When advising you, we consider factors such as:

  • your child's age and educational background;
  • your plans to stay in the Netherlands;
  • whether your child needs Dutch language support;
  • the possibility of attending an international primary school (IGBO);
  • any other preferences you may have.

Please note that the CIL does not specialise in supporting children with special educational needs.

Freedom of choice

The CIL provides information and guidance to help you make an informed choice. Parents are free to choose a school, while schools may apply their own admission policies within the legal framework. We help families and schools find the best possible match.

How does it work?

Register your child through the online registration form. After receiving your application, the coordinator will contact you as soon as possible. You may also contact the CIL directly to arrange a digital or in-person appointment.

Please note that referrals to schools and waiting lists are only possible for families with a registered address in the municipality of Amstelveen.

If you already live in the municipality and wish to transfer your child to another school, please contact the school directly.
