Is your child not yet 4 years old and want to know what you need to do to register for primary education?
The municipality of Amstelveen has an admission policy for all children born after 1 September 2020. For this purpose, a website has been created.
If your child has already reached the age of 4 by the time you arrive in Amstelveen, CIL will help you find a place at a nearby primary school.
4-6 year old children
In Amstelveen, the policy is that all children from the age of 4 to (almost) 6 years old enter a kindergarten class at a regular, Dutch-speaking elementary school. The CIL can inform you which schools are close to your home address and which schools have availability. You then can contact the school yourself for a tour, introduction meeting, and registration.
For children of (almost) 6 years old, in consultation with parents, we look closely at what your child needs. Depending on the educational background and the social-emotional development of your child, we will discuss if a place in a kindergarten group (group 2) or group 3 at the language school is most appropriate.
6-12 years old children
If parents want their children to follow mainstream education, children aged 6 to 12 who do not yet speak Dutch well must first attend a language school. After an average period of about one year, the children will be ready to join a regular primary school in the municipality of Amstelveen. The CIL will assist you in two ways: first, by helping you find a place at a language school, and second, by supporting you in enrolling your child in a regular primary school.
Amsteltaal is the only language school in Amstelveen, with two locations: Noord and Zuid. Applications to the language school are always handled through the CIL. Whenever possible, we will place your child at the location closest to your home.
For children of (almost) 12 years old, in consultation with parents, we look closely at what your child needs. Depending on the educational background and the social-emotional development of your child, we will discuss whether a place in the language school (group 7 or 8) or a spot at the ISK (see menu bar 12-18 years) is most appropriate.
Before and after school care
Before- and after-school care can be provided at daycare centers. If you would like to use this type of care, please contact a daycare center in your living area. They can provide you with further information. Government benefits might be possible.
